Sadly after spending a day of trying to get it to just start up, I finally gave up. I requested a refund and it is the first game I've tried refunding. Hopefully I'll get a response and my money back. I am very dissapointed. Idk exactly who is at fault for this not working but it isn't me. I've gone through the forms and tried basicly all the tricks my computer is up to date and everything works fine, except this. It seems to be missing important launtch software and when and if you can get it to start the resolution and screan size reminds me of a funhouse mirror. I couldn't even get it to recognize my mouse, so any commands to try to controll, fix, or start up anything on a minue I had to use keybord commands/shortcuts etc... I am very upset that I was unable to enjoy this game. Where does Shogo rank among all the games I've played, through all the years, the genres, the classics, the memories? Let's just say it's on the short list, the very short list of amazing games. The gameplay is plain wicked - with no environments ever repeating (except for some cities), it's always fun to see what's around the corner. If there is any justice in the world Shogo will be looked back on as one of the best 3D games of its time. Its compelling story, in-game cinematics, nearly continuous action, and unique armaments add new life to the FPS genre. The game is older, which means, getting the mouse to work is a pain in the butt. But after rebinding your keys and setting up the mouse, you are going to have a blast.. game doesnt work on windows 10. I tried all the tips off the fourms and still had no results. dont buy if you have a modern system.. no matter what i do i cant get this game to run so if you want to play a mech game in first person view try either titanfall 2 or slave zero (note for slave zero just go to the options menu and click either controls or video and that option will show up). Shogo Mobile Armor Division is a first person shooter created by Monolith and was the very first game to use the Lithtech engine. It's a rather unique game stylistically and in terms of concept. You play as a pilot named Sanjuro who both controls a mech suit and fights on foot in a war against other mechs.Shogo is heavily inspired by Japanese anime. To the point where I think it harms the game overall. The game looks very ugly visually and you can especially see it with the characters, who all look overly cartoony and somewhat disturbing. The story is also rather confusing and convoluted. It's not helped by how all of the characters come off as overly obnoxious, especially the main character. I understand it's to fit the style of the game but it feels really cringey while playing. However the soundtrack is fairly decent and does match the style of the levels pretty well. You have two distinctive modes of gameplay. On foot and in a mech. On foot gameplay is fairly standard for the time the game released in. Enemies mostly stand still and your weapons have very little feedback. The animations are also all janky. When piloting your mech the levels all look smaller like you're in miniature cities but the game still diverts you into generic corridor shooting sections that feel identical to the on foot sections. There is one critical problem with the gameplay of Shogo that becomes immediately apparent and frustrates the player. "Critical hits". In Shogo randomly while hitting enemies or while enemies attack the player, critical hits occur. It basically means that at complete random you can kill enemies more effectively. However you very rarely notice your own critical hits due to how generally overpowered all of your weapons are. You mostly notice how you suddenly die while entering rooms out of nowhere. This causes the game to feel very claustraphobic and not very fun to run and gun through. This isn't helped by how the game is very linear and there's no real way to avoid it.Shogo isn't an ambitious game nor a particularly polished one. It's a tech demo first and foremost, designed to advertise and promote Monolith's engine. It pales in comparison to other games released in 1998 like Half-Life. And while it does have a small loyal fanbase it's unfortunately a game that's really hard for me to recommend to people. Fortunately Monolith learned from their mistakes on Shogo and dramatically improved with their later shooters like No One Lives Forever and Aliens Vs Predator 2. Here's hoping both make it to Steam one day.. Amazing game. Honestly there is not very much to talk about it other than it is a very unique and amazing game.The only cons is that the enemy critical is way to strong sometimes but you mostly have the advatage.Other than that the game is really good it has amazing humor, great story, awesome gameplay combats, (A cat quest), great sounds, etc.. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUEThis is not a review about the game itself, which was great when it came out - and probably still is.But this release is unacceptably garbage. Just trying to set display settings makes the launcher complaing about DirectX 6 not being on the system, and I should hope not! 😂Top bar is always visible in-game, when trying to set resolution in-game it glitched out and saidresolution 18356270788 x 544830049 😂😂😂Running the game also forced the Curse Client to install something called Directplay ?!But the worst part of all was when I played the game and died, the reload caused the game to crash directplay or something, game froze and I could not end the process in any way.And after rebooting my PC; nVidia Share froze for some reason.AND the text in all of my apps got really low resolution, grainy (even though my display settings were the same)So yeah...
